Web Site User Interface Design

Generally, user interface design is associated with the practice of designing user interfaces for software applications. The principles and theories of user interface design are also suitable for the design of a Web site, Web elements and widgets such as interactive advertisements, Java Script functionality, applets and programs running under the Flash environment.

Web developers in the beginning of the Web era had to learn by experience and frequently test ideas for usability. The modern day Web developers have at their disposal a wealth of proven and tested Web design guidelines and principles. There is no need to test and learn by trial and error unless they want to, but when delivering high quality Web design that adheres to usability requirements or standards it is wise to follow the known guidelines and principles.

Logo top leftOne example based on a principle of a user interface design is the location of logo in the top left corner of Web sites. Users are expecting to see a logo in the top left corner and when navigating a Web site they use this logo to take them back to the main page. The user prefers consistency and uses prior experience when navigating a Web site; he/she sees what he/she expects to see.
