User Interface Design

 
It is inevitable that all Webmasters running a Web site will have to create a mobile or smartphone version of their Websites sooner than later. Designing a mobile version of a Website is in many ways similar to creating a Website fifteen years ago. Simple, basic HTML tags, low on graphics with emphasis on clear navigation.

Blogging has been a part of the Web's landscape for more than ten years even though it reached its momentum a few years later. JavaScript first appeared fifteen years ago and just like blogging, it reached its momentum a few years later and actually around the same time as blogging did. Is blogging and JavaScript, and its libraries and frameworks, a perfect match? Are blogs setting the trend in Java Script or are they plain old Html pages generated on the fly by blog publishing systems?

There is no formula or a template for creating the perfect Web site. There is also no secret formula to measure a Web site's success. An old-fashioned Web site can be enormously popular generating large sums of money for their owners. It is also possible that a Web site is a masterpiece of design generating many "wows" from its visitors. The question is; are both types of Web sites successful?

The most obvious way to optimize Web content is to look at the tags with textual content including elements such as the title, headings, Alt tags, links, paragraph, Span and Div. However, there are more aspects of content optimization and that includes the usage of the tags themselves.

Content optimization tasks involve either textual content optimization or graphical content optimization. Decreasing document size and trimming Html code to the point that it has effect on Web page load time and overall Web site's performance is probably an option most Webmasters look at in their optimization efforts.

The options that Web designers have to set up layout for a Web page are somewhat limited. For long time the only option for Web designers was the Table tag and for many Web designers that is the primary tag to make pixel perfect layout. The Div tag is newer and is more suited to set up layout on a Web page than the Table tag, but it is trickier and requires more thinking and pixel calculating.

A common structure of a Web page is a top with a logo and important site-specific links, link bars on the left or right and somewhere in the middle is the textual content. This structure is on countless number of Web sites. This structure does not guarantee that visitors easily perceive a Web page structured this way even though its design follows known standards and user interface guidelines.

Web sites are of many forms, functionality and design. This is in part what makes the Web exciting environment for the Web users. There are backgrounds and tiled image backgrounds in all the colors and patterns under the sun. Some Web sites are Flash based with fascinating graphics while others are pure text with conservative layout and everything in between. Links are underlined or not and in many colors depending on the overall design. Is all this variety good for the Web user?
