Search engine optimization and content optimization once were topics that few respected, but that has changed. One of the main reasons for that change is the way the search engine industry has evolved.
As the major search engines have become better at fighting spam and unwanted content and lifted a huge effort to make search as good as it is today. It has become more difficult than ever to trick the search engines and the community is vibrant in helping search engines such as Google to prevent tricksters to occupy top search engine spots.
As eWeek says in The Future of Search in the Enterprise:
"From search engine optimization (SEO) to search engine marketing (SEM), today's enterprise business staff, especially marketers, and IT speak a different language when it comes to their Websites and online efforts they did just a few years ago."
How is it possible to ignore a field of expertise that revolves around some of the most advanced information retrieval technologies in the world today? The attitude is changing and that is a good thing.
