Splash Pages and the Skip Intro Link

Splash pages are more common than one can imagine. Splash pages are for example advertisements pushed onto the user's screen before he reaches the actual content. The user can "skip intro" or wait for few seconds before the Web site delivers the actual content.

Another form of splash pages are Web pages, often located at the top of a Web site's hierarchy, which shows an intro, a presentation or interactive and multimedia content. These splash pages often allow the user to skip the intro and click on a link to get to the actual content.

We are not going to criticize splash pages. They can serve the right purpose just fine, but considering the search engine optimization aspects and from a search-engine-marketing point of view they may not be effective.

We have mentioned in previous post that at least one major search engine has introduced technology to index SWF files which is the most popular format for splash pages. This will help webmaster and Web designers that need to work with splash pages to serve their content and will of course increase the frequency of splash pages and we may see them evolve into improved things.
