Heading Relationship Analysis: Business Blogs

Html is a markup language. It marks a text document with tags, Web browsers interpret these tags, and the result is a formatted document visible in the Web user's browser window. Html tags can also define document structure in a way that importance of various parts is understandable, both for machines and humans, and resemble the layout of classic word processing documents. One such is the Heading tag (H1-6).

The Heading tag has six levels and the general understanding is the lower the number is the more important the text it contains is in the overall document structure and the content that follows. In raw mode without the use of CSS styles, this importance reflects in the font size of the headings.

The heading tag has been a target for search engine optimization for a very long time. How important as a target it is may be arguable, but previous samples show there is a pattern. What we are interested to learn is how business blogs use the heading tag. Blogs are text-rich Web pages and can use a variety of Html tags to structure, layout and define text content to make it easier for Web users to read and to help search engines to index.

The data table shows relationship between the heading tags and title and Meta description. The data is from two business blog samples and one larger sample from general Web sites having prominent positions within search engine results of major search engines. Only meaningful words are measured.
