Business Blogging in 2010

Blogging has changed the World Wide Web landscape in a very big way. Blogging is almost a synonym for opinionated Web publishing, information exchange and new Web site discoveries. A few months ago, we looked at tech blogs and tech news sites combined since the two types are very similar in many ways, but in this and the following items, we will focus entirely on business blogs.

We will look at various measurements regarding content and design and eventually we will have a better understanding of why both search engines and Web users at large simply love blogs.

We will look at two equally sized samples of business blogs:

Business Blogs

This sample contains blogs that cover online business, b2b, marketing, and advertising and Web 2.0 topics. These blogs, all written in English, may or may not have prominent positions within search results of major search engines. However, they have a link mention on high quality blog resources that we used as a starting point for assembling this sample. Some of these blogs are part of blog hubs or as sub-domains of company Web sites while others are with dedicated domain names. In short, this is a high quality slice of blogs recommended by quality sources or recognized as being popular.

Business Blogs SE

This sample is very similar to the above sample with the exception that it contains blogs that have a prominent position within search engine results of major search engines.

We visited each of the hundreds of blogs for this project. We verified they have common characteristics of a typical blog, and analyzed the bits and pieces that form a business blog.
