In previous observations we have seen how Web page documents are getting longer. There is more content, preferably textual content, included on Websites than before. Perhaps this has something to do with the impacts major search engines are having on content optimization efforts in order to get better positions.
B2B Websites are slightly different when it comes to Web page document sizes as is clearly seen on the following data table and bar chart.
| Web Page Size (average values) | ||||
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Observed Element | B2B June 2009 | B2B May 2010 | B2B August 2010 | General |
| HTML Document Length | 28241.8 | 29248.3 | 28800.3 | 47680.1 |
| Text Content Length | 3653.0 | 3817.9 | 3848.6 | 8833.2 |
| Page Body Length | 25543.0 | 25998.2 | 25220.6 | 44298.1 |
| Link Code Length | 7466.9 | 8290.8 | 8434.1 | 17790.2 |
| Table Code Length | 13424.1 | 13333.9 | 13985.4 | 13519.2 |
| Header Length | 2417.9 | 2640.6 | 2679.1 | 2760.2 |
| Comments | 2063.5 | 2147.7 | 2038.5 | 2970.1 |
| Link Text Length | 889.5 | 1038.3 | 1047.3 | 2110.8 |

The document length of B2B Websites is shorter than with the general Websites and it is not getting any longer. The pure textual content is also not increasing and is considerably less than with general Websites. The link text is also shorter which points to a more traditional Website setup and layout.
