One Page Web Design: Endless Possibilities

The Web sites of today are of many forms, look, design, structure and functionality. The most common Web pages have graphics, navigational links, banners and textual or multimedia content. It is also common that Web sites contain thousands of pages with textual content such as articles and blog posts. It is also very common that such Web sites use SQL databases for data storage with HTML front end.

Today's technology makes it possible to design large Web sites that they are one page instead of thousands or millions. Ajax programming technology makes such a design possible. What is more important it makes pages designed that way faster, they consume less bandwidth and occupy less disk space. For the end user it will probably result in better user experience.

Why so few Web sites are of such design is a good question, but it has a simple answer. The reason is search engines and legacy Web pages and old Web browsers still in use. The major search engines are yet to solve the problem of indexing Web sites programmed with Java Script. Every Web site that is looking for findability must be findable with the major search engines.

Once the search engines will find a way to index Java Script powered Web sites properly we will see a new type of Web sites emerge, Web sites that save disk space, save bandwidth, save energy, perform faster and bring a new dimension of features to the Web.
