Web designers and coders can choose from range of great software packages that provide great Web design and Web development environments. Some of these software packages are proprietary, but others are freely available or open source, which is the subject here.
The Eclipse integrated development environment (IDE) is a fantastic piece of software. Anyone into Java coding probably know Eclipse dearly. The pluggable design of Eclipse has turned it into a lot more than Java programming environment. Plug-in software is available for many programming and scripting languages. The standard Java installation comes with a HTML editor. Eclipse and many of the plug-ins are free to use and open source.
Aptana is an IDE built upon Eclipse with focus on Web development with HTML, CSS, Java Script, Java Script libraries and more. Anyone familiar with Eclipse can seamlessly start working in Aptana. The Java Script, HTML and CSS editors that come with Aptana are very good and our favorite tool of choice. Aptana is freely available with an optional professional package including more features.
