Web Design Trends: Rapid Solutions for Rounded Corners

Just like the fashion business, Web design has its own trends and fashions. These trends begin in desktop software, Web applications, mobile applications, new design patterns or on a single Web page. These trends spill from one to the other and become mainstream trends and that is when you start to see these trendy elements and designs everywhere.

One of these trends in the past few years is rounded corners. The HTML markup language and cascading style sheets (CSS) have only rectangle elements or boxes. Getting these elements such as boxes and tables to have rounded borders or backgrounds requires techniques and tweaks that are difficult to master.

Often the solution is to use cleverly located vector images that mimic the nature of rounded borders. Other solutions involve drawing rounded borders with Java Script, but that is often tricky since Web browsers handle such drawing differently. The best solution for rapid generation of rounded corners is probably re-using solutions that other webmasters kindly offer to the world or use some of the brilliant Java Script scripts and plugins that are available, often free.
