Advertising in newsletters is a solid advertising method for many advertisers. eZines and e-Main newsletter became very popular around the end of the last century, but it has gotten fierce competition from RSS, feeds distributed with XML. Publications with good reader base and good content are a good medium to advertise related products, but it may not be the method of the future.

E-Mail has one big problem that RSS feed doesn't have and that is spam and that will always be the Achilles heel of e-Mail newsletters. Despite being distributed differently newsletters distributed via E-mail, RSS or Atom have one thing in common and that is the copy and the copy has to be written.
